Confessions of a Superhero (2007)

Directed by Matthew Ogens

This documentary centers on the people that stand on Hollywood Boulevard dressed as copyright-protected super heroes and movie characters. They do this as a "service" to tourists, who can take pictures with them on the world famous Hollywood Blvd, for a tip of course.

This film follows some of the people that do this as a living, namely Superman, aka Christopher Dennis. To get into the stories of these people would take too long, and that's the joy of watching the film. It also follows Batman, aka Maxwell Allen. To understand these people and what they do is difficult, but after the duration of the film, you start to understand their existence, no matter what you think of it.

It's a very interesting film, especially once you learn who the players are, what they are in their real lives, and how they ended up as costumed heroes on Hollywood Blvd posing with tourists. Each has their own compelling story of struggle through life, and the film is told with a slightly prejudicial tone, but other than that, it's a great film, hilarious, heartbreaking, and real, it's not like many documentaries you've seen before.

8.9/10
