Chemical Wedding (2008) US TITLE: Crowley

Written by Bruce Dickerson and Julian Doyle
Directed by Julian Doyle

A British B-movie about a professor named Haddo (Simon Callow) who has conjured the spirit of Aliester Crowley, using his body as a conduit to make Crowley a physical being again. The plot is kind of convoluted, and it gets confusing at times, but while the writing is weak, and it's barely about Aliester Crowley, it is an interesting little b-movie about the supernatural, dark conjuring, etc.

Once Haddo has reincarnated Crowley into himself through a machine (not well explained) that can transplant people into a moment in reality. Like a time machine, sans the time. So Crowley comes through, and starts wreaking havoc, recruiting people for his perversion parties filled with sex and drugs, always looking for more followers to help him gain strength.

The main characters have to end up going into the reality machine, and one of them has to change the fact that Haddo tried to resurrect Crowley in the first place.

Other than the faulty story and gaps in logic on some aspects, overall it's a pretty good movie, the set design was good for the budget, it was well shot, and for the most part the actors did a good job. The problem with this film was the fact that the plot was too ambitious for the budget, and I was personally disappointed it wasn't more directly about Aliester Crowley, which I wanted it to be. For all accounts and purposes, pretty good b-movie, but not a great Aliester Crowley film, if that's what you're looking for.

7.9/10
