Nerdcore Rising (2008)

Directed by Negin Farsad & Kim Gatewood

This documentary follows up-and-coming hip hop artist MC Frontalot as he tries to take his show and his music on the road for the very first time, in untested waters, those of the touring Nerdcore artist. It examines the nerd culture and lifestyle that has become popular, oddly enough, as an underground sensation that has spawned a new genre of white rap .

While the documentary follows Frontalot on his first tour, it examines the rigors of the road on a small, first time crew, and their adventures in gaining fans and getting better as they go. On the other hand, the interviews are mostly with people associated with nerdcore, such as producer Prince Paul, and other notable nerdcore rappers such as mc chris and MC Lars.

It's an interesting film about a tight-knit group of people that have bonded in an irregular way, and how the music of this culture has brought such a vast arrangement of people together through their common pop culture favorites.

8.5/10
